My grandfather's career is jam packed with amazing events. He has done so much in his career that this section of the book is a little over 100 pages! Therefore, I, the granddaughter, decided to put highlight photos from his career on this page and if you would like to learn more about them, you can download the pdf versions of this site! Enjoy!

Detailed Experience

1994 to Present - Boeing Company
                Principal Engineer Scientist (Contract Hire)
Performed specific task including proposal preparation, reliability and Safety analysis, and preparation of the Environmental Assessment Data Book for the Mars 2001 Lander Mission. This latter report is the data book for a Delta II launch with a nuclear payload.

1967 to 1994  - McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company
Senior Manager- Safety and Product Assurance
Directed and performed safety, environmental management and product assurance engineering for several programs. Performed and managed reliability and safety for a urban transportation system. Most recent assignment was Senior Manager of Safety and Product Assurance for the Ground Surveillance and Tracking System Program (GSTS), previously Senior Manager of Safety and Product Assurance for the High Endoatmospheric Defense Interceptor Program (HEDI). Both of these programs were managed by the U. S. Army Space and Strategic Defense Command. Responsibilities on these programs included the system safety (design safety) the operational safety and environmental management at the test sites and the Product Assurance (quality assurance, reliability, maintainability, parts control, human factors, and corrosion/contamination control). Served as the Ground Safety Officer for three HEDI launch operations at White Sands Missile Range. Previously Manager of Safety and Product Assurance for the Neutral Particle Beam Power Systems Demonstrator Program, the Neutral Particle Beam Integrated Experiment and the Titan II/IV Payload Fairing Programs. Responsible for the reliability and safety analysis for portions of the High Energy Laser Test Facility. Prepared Hazard Reports for the Space Shuttle Payload Assist Module (PAM) and the Naval Research Laboratory Shuttle Launch Dispenser. Responsible for the reliability and safety analysis of a Solar Power Plant (Solar-One) and a Nuclear Rocket Stage Program. Served as Patent Law representative for a division of the corporation.

1961 to 1964 and 1965 to 1967 - Westinghouse Astronuclear Lab.
                                                     Senior Engineer
Formulated and initiated a test program to provide data for the analysis of the safety of nuclear rockets. Supervised a group responsible for the control systems and control rooms for Test Cells A and C at the Nuclear Rocket Development Station (Jackass Flats Nevada). Directed a group responsible for the control systems of NERVA nuclear rocket engines and for the design of advanced test facility control systems. Served on the Safety Committee for Nuclear Rocket Testing.

1964 to 1965 - Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory
                                   Staff Member
Served as Alternate Chief Test Operator for nuclear rocket test reactors. Prepared detailed test procedures for nuclear reactor testing. Supervised design and operation of control systems and control rooms.

1956 to 1961 - Martin Co.
                    Senior Engineer/Lead Engineer
Performed analog computer studies on the thermodynamics and fluid flow  of nuclear rocket engines. Directed the first nuclear rocket safety study under NASA/AEC contract. Performed analog computer studies on core physics and fluid flow for the Fluidized Bed Nuclear Reactor; developed equations describing reactor physics and heat transfer for nonfixed geometry nuclear reactor cores. Performed post-flight analysis and prepared  range safety reports for Project Vanguard.

1953 to 1956 - White Rodgers Electric Company
                        Engineer

Designed, developed and flight tested an analog computer for a drone aircraft control system.

1952 to 1953 - U. S. Army - Lieutenant

Served as instructor in the radar section of the artillery school at Ft. Bliss Texas.
