Problem, Need, or Opportunity

Every person has the right to let their life story be told. My grandfather, Clifford Boehmer, has written an extensive autobiography (Boehmer Luck), to which no one has read. He has had a fascinating life, however, his book is so long and it would be very expensive to print, that people do not feel inclined to read it. By having a website about his life, based on his book, my grandfather will have a better way to present his life story, not only to my family but to whomever wishes to learn more about the people who have come before them.

Audience

The initial audience would be my relatives. Although we are all connected though the bonds of family, we live in various places in the United States (California to Georgia in fact) and this would give better access to our beloved relatives story. A secondary audience would be anyone who wants to learn more about the past. My Grandfather has been around many important events in his lifetime and people could greatly benefit from knowing more about them.

User's Needs

I have discussed this project with 4 family members and the following are what they would like to see on the website:

1. Different pages based on the different stages of my grandfather’s life.

2. Photographs were unanimously voted to be incorporated as much as possible.

3. A way to download the full PDF of the book, Boehmer Luck, for further interest.

I will have tabs to different time periods in my grandfather’s life, loosely his youth, war time, career, personal life and children’s lives. Pictures that are relevant to each topic will be readily available and on the homepage there will be an option to download the full PDF of Boehmer Luck.

Environment

Viewers will most likely be accessing this website from their homes during their leisure time. Most of them will have decent internet connections. There will not be videos or animation so they will not need any type of extra plug in. There will be many photographs however, so their connection will need to be decent in order for them to fully load. From this they will be able to comprehensively discuss this information together at family reunions and family holidays.

Resources and Limitations

I have full access to the book, Boehmer Luck, electronically. The book already has the most important pictures that I would need, but if not, I do have access to many of the photographs I would need. Time is the major constraint to this project, however, I have such high aspirations for this project that it should not get in the way.

General Solution

This website will have the most important events from the book presented in a user friendly way. It will allow more of the family to have the basic information from the book, and our Grandfather’s life, that will enhance our connection to him and one another. They will be able to easily access information from different points in his life and see through photos what it was really like to live when he did.
